Foot pain, swelling, recovery: light that calms the foot.
A foot that is stiff in the morning, an ankle that stays thick after a sprain, heavy legs in the evening, a toe that will not settle after surgery: HEALITE II works with LED light in two wavelengths, 830 nm for deeper tissue and 633 nm for the skin, without heat, needles or medication. The manufacturer names temporary relief of muscle and joint pain, arthritis symptoms and stiffness, support of wound healing and less swelling, bruising and pain after procedures. That is exactly where we use it at the foot.
What HEALITE II helps with at the foot.
- Arthrosis of the toe and foot joints (hallux rigidus, ankle, midfoot): 830 nm over the joint, six to ten sessions, combined with pressure relief and shoe advice
- Heel pain and plantar fascia (heel spur, plantar fasciitis): light plus stretching and offloading
- Tendons and overuse (Achilles tendon, extensor tendons, metatarsalgia)
- Swollen, heavy, tired feet after long standing, heat, travel, sprains or contusions: supports local circulation; a sudden, warm, one-sided swelling is assessed by a physician first to rule out thrombosis
- Recovery after surgery (hallux, hammer toe, nail surgery, ligament repair): from closed wound, in agreement with the surgeon, for healing, swelling and the scar
- Recovery after podiatric procedures (wart therapy, nail brace, packing, corn and callus treatment)
- Cramps and stiffness
Indication frame according to the manufacturer (Lutronic HEALITE II, FDA 510(k) 2012, CE). Light therapy complements podiatry, physiotherapy and medical treatment; it does not replace them, and no particular result can be guaranteed.
Why light works.
Photobiomodulation: light of specific wavelengths is absorbed by cytochrome c oxidase in the mitochondria; cells produce more energy (ATP), release nitric oxide that widens small vessels and modulate inflammatory messengers. 830 nm reaches several centimetres into tissue, 633 nm works in skin and subcutis. Clinical work on 830 nm LED shows faster resolution of redness, swelling and bruising after procedures (Calderhead et al., Laser Therapy 2015); evidence varies by indication.
How it works.
Findings first (red flags such as a hot one-sided swelling, fever or suspected fracture go to a physician first), then ten to twenty minutes under the LED panel with protective goggles, usually two to three times a week for two to four weeks, often right after your podiatry treatment. From CHF 90 per session, self-pay. Not used with photosensitising medication, known light sensitivity, porphyria or epilepsy (as a precaution), pregnancy (as a precaution), tumours or unclear skin changes in the treatment area, or acute infection with fever.
