The Threshold

Your first visit

The first appointment at a new practice is a small advance of trust. So that you know what you are letting yourself in for, we open the door here in advance: the way, the first minutes, the process, the costs. In short: no surprises, except the pleasant ones.

The way to the door

You will find us at Zeltweg 74, halfway between Kreuzplatz and the Kunsthaus. The nearest stop is Sprecherstrasse (bus 31), a good hundred metres from the door. The entrance is on the right side of the building, four steps lead up, at the top you ring the left bell marked «Hottinger Podologie», and we open the door for you.

The first minutes

Arriving five minutes early is entirely sufficient. There is no front desk to report to, no ticket to draw, no waiting room full of glances. You are expected, and the time reserved for you belongs to you alone.

The process in four chapters

I

The conversation and the assessment

First we listen: What brings you here, since when, what has already been tried? This includes the questions that belong to foot health, such as diabetes or blood-thinning medication. Then we look at both feet, calmly and thoroughly. Photo documentation is standard with us: the initial findings are recorded, so that progress later becomes visible rather than merely claimed.

II

The treatment

We work with freshly reprocessed, steam-sterilised instruments; the sealed packaging is opened only before your eyes, and blades are single-use items. What is treated is what has been discussed: understand first, then treat, gently and thoroughly. You may say at any time if something feels uncomfortable.

III

The honest advice

The craft includes the word: What caused the trouble, what can you do yourself, which footwear helps, which does harm? We tell you openly what makes sense, and just as openly what does not. Nothing is sold to you in the process.

IV

The farewell

At the end you receive an honest recommendation on how often a treatment makes sense in your case, from «once a quarter» to «you do not need us for now». If you wish, we reserve the next appointment right away, gladly in the early evening too: the house is open for you Monday to Friday until 8 pm.

What to bring

Really only yourself. Three things help: the list of your medication, if you take blood thinners or have diabetes; the medical prescription, if you have one; and the shoes you wear most often, for they often tell us more than any description. And in case you are wondering: No, your feet do not need to be presentable for us. That is what you are coming for.

The promise at the threshold

There is no foot a podiatrist has not seen before. Whatever you carry across this threshold: here it is looked at without judgement, and treated with care.

Common first questions

What does the first appointment cost?

The complete podiatry treatment starts at CHF 130. What your feet need is discussed before treatment begins, transparently and according to the price list. There are no surprises on the invoice.

Does the treatment hurt?

Podiatry is not a test of courage. We work gently, and much of it brings immediate relief, such as easing an ingrown toenail or removing a corn. You may say at any time if something feels uncomfortable, and we will change our approach.

I have a medical prescription. What does that mean?

Simply bring it along. For diabetic foot syndrome, basic health insurance covers podiatry treatments with a medical prescription; in other cases some supplementary insurance policies contribute. Best check briefly with your insurer, and feel free to ask us.

Do I need to prepare anything?

Nothing is required, see above: medication list, prescription if you have one, your most-worn shoes. Please do not cut or file anything yourself beforehand, not even «to make it look tidy». Just come as you are.
